Working Out On the Road

May 14, 2012

Exercising While Traveling

Working out while you’re traveling can be tough – between meetings, conferences and eating out – but you can get a workout in with a little planning. This means putting some time in your itinerary for exercise – from time in the hotel fitness center to a walk on a nearby trail. Scheduling your workouts like you schedule your meetings can help you be more successful when it comes to exercising on the road.

Set Realistic Goals

First – be realistic. You probably won’t fit in your normal workout routine and that is okay. If you normally work out five times a week and you’re at a conference for a week try to get in at least two workouts.

Stay Motivated

Download some new material to your computer, phone or iPod. Think about what motivates you at home – is it upbeat music? Do you love listening to sports podcasts? You might even enjoy listening to an audio book while you’re on a bike.  Think of your time in the fitness center or doing yoga in your room as “me” time while you’re away from home.

Get Outside

If you love to exercise outside – research local running or walking trails near your hotel. Minneapolis is home to more than 200 miles of recreational paths and 170 parks and we’re happy to point you in the right direction. We love having Elm Creek Park Reserve so close by! You can also find trails through this website.

Take Advantage of the Fitness Center

While there are great exercises you can do right in your hotel room – the hotel fitness center is a great place to work out. Our new, state-of-the-art 1,500 square feet Fitness Center at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest opens in mid-June and you’ll love how easy it is to stay active when you’re not in the boardroom! It will have 24-hour room key access to help you find time to take advantage of the new treadmills, elliptical machines, stair climbers, stationary bikes and weights. If you’d rather swim, take advantage of our heated indoor pool or relax your muscles in our indoor hot tub!
